About The Position

The Training Specialist is responsible for hands-on onboarding, technical coaching, and safety-compliance training for new and cross-training production personnel. Working directly on the plant floor, the specialist ensures operators can safely operate machinery, follow standard operating procedures, and meet quality and safety standards before working independently. The role also evaluates and documents trainee progress, maintains training records and materials, and supports consistent coaching practices across shifts.

Responsibilities

Lead onboarding for production new hires as they transition to manufacturing lines and work cells.
Provide side-by-side instruction on machinery operation, tool use, raw-material handling, and finished-goods inspection.
Demonstrate physical competencies and production workflows, and answer trainees’ questions on the floor.
Facilitate cross-training for existing operators.
Teach and enforce company safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and OSHA regulations.
Guide trainees through written Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and translate technical documents into practical execution.
Identify differences between written procedures and floor practices and work with shift supervisors to correct behaviors.
Track, evaluate, and document trainee progress using skills matrices and training checklists.
Conduct skill verifications and competency sign-offs before operators are cleared to work independently.
Provide timely, constructive feedback and report progress or performance concerns to Shift Supervisors and Production Managers.
Maintain organized training records and audit readiness for corporate safety or industry quality standards.
Mentor senior operators who assist with training and establish consistent coaching methods across shifts.
Assist in updating training manuals and checklists as equipment or workflows change.
