About The Position

The Training Specialist (TS) will facilitate parenting skills training and related workshops, lead support groups, and coordinate peer support relationships and family events and activities. The TS provides case management and related workshops. The TS will contact group participants to engage and assess progress to achieving goals for the Individual Service Plan (ISP). Connect participants to services that address immediate needs related to housing, substance abuse, physical and mental well-being, violent or risky behavior, and other areas that threaten to inhibit full participation and ability to achieve personal and program goals.

Requirements

  • At least a bachelor's degree, knowledge and some experience in fatherhood programming, best practices, and standards
  • Or at least two (2) years of successful experience within the past five (5) years in facilitating parenting skills training and support groups for low income adults.
  • Good verbal and written communication are essential
  • Computer proficient

Responsibilities

  • Complete the Pre-and-Post Parenting Skills Knowledge survey to ensure the program attains the contracted number of outcomes each year.
  • Utilize a case management model for participants in all tiers, including: (1) holistic assessment of the father’s strengths and needs and development of an Individual Service Plan (ISP) listing supportive services, benefits and resources needed; (2) implementation of the ISP (coordinating community resources and working with and advocating on behalf of the family to meet identified goals); (3) regular review of the ISP to assess whether goals have been met or need to be changed; and (4) follow-up to ensure that the father has received requested services.
  • Deliver eight required activities for the Fatherhood Initiative: Orientation, Parenting Skills Training, Supervised Visitation Coaching, Case Management, Community Projects, Support Groups, Family Events, and Workshops.
  • Serve and customize services for fathers with varying levels of child visitation, coparent engagement, court and agency orders, skills, and needs.
  • Offer four service tier options to participants.
  • Implement parenting skills training to participants with two different curricula: ProFatherhing15 and Supporting Father Involvement (SFI).
  • Guided by DYCD’s Case Management Toolkit, develop goal-oriented Individual Service Plan (ISP), and facilitate applications and referrals to various services and supports.
  • Address the changing needs of fathers and adapt services accordingly.
  • Provide individual, family and group counseling, provide direct services/case planning to clients including mediation/conflict resolution training to fathers to facilitate effective co-parenting and visitation.
  • Assist with supervised or monitored visitation opportunities for fathers when necessary.
  • Enter progress notes in DYCD data system of record.
