About The Position

The Gray Media Training Program at KPHO/KTVK (Arizona's Family) is a 10-week paid internship designed for college students to gain hands-on experience in various media roles. Participants will step into roles such as producer, MMJ, meteorologist, or media sales executive, handling real-world assignments that may be broadcast. The program emphasizes digital content creation for social media, streaming apps, and web stories, reflecting a digital-first approach. Interns will collaborate with experienced professionals, dedicate 25 hours per week to mastering their specialty, and build a professional portfolio. The goal is to create impactful stories for the community or assist local businesses, while positioning interns for potential full-time career opportunities within Gray Media's network of 113 stations.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment as a college student (Junior or Senior status preferred).
  • Pursuing a degree in Journalism, Communications, Sales, Marketing, or a related field.
  • A "doer" mindset with the initiative to take on tasks.
  • Understanding that media happens across multiple platforms.
  • Strong work ethic, organization, and a "can-do" attitude.
  • Clear and confident communication skills for storytelling, pitching ideas, or explaining forecasts.
  • Commitment to the full 10-week program and the 25-hour weekly schedule.
  • Passion for the community and local media.
  • Be currently enrolled in a college/university as a degree-seeking student.
  • Major/emphasis in Journalism, Mass Media, Communications, or a related field.
  • Strong work ethic and organizational skills.
  • Be eligible to work in the United States with a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Interest in NEWS (including Weather) and SPORTS.

Responsibilities

  • Step into the shoes of a producer, MMJ, meteorologist, or media sales executive and handle real-world assignments.
  • Create content that lives beyond the TV screen, including social media, streaming apps, and web stories.
  • Collaborate with seasoned veterans in the field.
