About The Position

The Gray Media Training Program at WWNY offers college students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various media roles, including producer, MMJ, meteorologist, or media sales executive. Participants will create content for digital platforms, collaborate with experienced professionals, and build a professional portfolio. The program aims to make an impact by telling community stories or helping local businesses grow through innovative media strategies, positioning interns for potential full-time career opportunities within Gray Media's network. WWNY, located in Watertown, NY, has been a broadcast leader since 1954, known for its state-of-the-art facility and premier technology, bringing big-city production and professionalism to upstate New York.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment as a college student (Junior or Senior status preferred).
  • Pursuing a degree in Journalism, Communications, Sales, Marketing, or a related field.
  • A "doer" mindset with the ability to take initiative.
  • Understanding that media happens across multiple platforms, from TV to mobile devices.
  • Strong work ethic, bringing urgency, organization, and a "can-do" attitude.
  • Clear and confident communication skills for storytelling, pitching ideas, or explaining information.
  • Reliability and commitment to the full 10-week program and the 25-hour weekly schedule.
  • Passion for the community and local media.
  • Currently enrolled in a college/university, preferably in your senior year.
  • Strong work ethic and organizational skills.
  • College student, seniors preferred, earning a degree in Journalism/Communications.
  • Have reliable transportation to travel to our TV station in Watertown, NY.

Responsibilities

  • Step into the shoes of a producer, MMJ, meteorologist, or media sales executive and handle real-world assignments.
  • Create content that lives beyond the TV screen, including social media, streaming apps, and web stories.
  • Work side by side with seasoned veterans to gain insights.
  • Dedicate 25 hours per week for 10 weeks to mastering your specialty and building a professional-grade portfolio.
  • Tell stories that matter to the community or help local businesses grow through innovative media strategies.
  • Position yourself at the front of the line for full-time career opportunities within Gray Media’s network of 113 stations.
