About The Position

Performs operational functions for the region, including traffic control, public safety, communications, removal of disabled vehicles, and enforcement of facility regulations. The role coordinates facility communications, maintains required logs and reports, operates and monitors traffic management systems, and carries out traffic management and facility operations in accordance with standard operating procedures and applicable policies and regulations. The Traffic Controller responds to routine and emergency situations and provides motorists and coworkers with clear, accurate, courteous, and professional information and directions.

Requirements

• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to gather data and prepare reports.
• Ability to operate and maintain equipment used on bridges, tunnels, and roadways.
• Knowledge of bridge and tunnel operations.
• Knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures and applicable policies and regulations governing emergency and non-emergency traffic situations.
• Skill in providing good customer service.
• Skill in using computers and software applications.
• Valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED desired.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and conduct facility communications by radio and telephone in a clear and concise manner.
• Respond proactively to customers, including motorists and coworkers, and provide clear, accurate information and directions in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.
• Maintain logs and reports as required by Standard Operating Procedures and other applicable policies.
• Provide effective traffic control by operating and monitoring traffic management systems, including CCTV monitors, CO analyzers, haze detectors, fire alarms, traffic map boards, and NewTon; operate active components when appropriate.
• Conduct traffic management and facility operations by understanding and applying Standard Operating Procedures and applicable policies and regulations.
• Respond to routine and emergency situations.
• Perform regional operational functions that include traffic control, public safety, communications, removing disabled vehicles, and enforcing facility regulations.
