About The Position

This role involves participating in Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP) for product launches at both Corporate and Plant levels. It also includes contributing to MOS (Midway Operating Systems) for Continuous Improvement, such as leading Champion Team activities for process improvement, scrap reduction, and metal savings. The position requires participation in tooling design reviews and approvals to ensure feasibility, production readiness, and adherence to product design intent and company standards. The engineer will act as a company representative in tool shop run-offs to verify tooling and fixtures meet specifications and performance standards. Coordination of plant activities for new tooling and fixture tryouts to meet PPAP dates is also a key function. The role provides engineering expertise and direction to Skilled Trades for resolving tooling issues and designs special tooling and fixtures as needed. Contributions are expected towards achieving plant performance objectives and LTA Cost Reduction programs. The position assists in maintaining engineering documents and records, and in developing/maintaining spare tooling and parts. Leading and assisting in work cell rearrangement using Lean Manufacturing concepts is also part of the role. The engineer is authorized to initiate action to prevent nonconformities and to identify and record problems related to product, process, and quality systems. Other essential job functions may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a two year College Technical degree or equivalent experience.
  • Six years of experience in the field.
  • Experience in Tool and Die making.
  • Computer literate.
  • AutoCad or Cad Experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Four year apprenticeship in Tool and Die making preferred.
  • Experience in a stamping plant preferred.
  • Knowledge and Experience with Lean Manufacturing preferred.
  • Ability to verbally communicate well and write technical reports.

Responsibilities

  • Participate and contribute in Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities for product launches.

  • Provide Engineering expertise, direction and assistance to Skilled Trades in resolving tooling and related problems.
  • Design special tooling and fixtures as required.
  • Contribute Tool and Process Engineering expertise to achieve plant performance objectives and LTA Cost Reduction programs.
  • Assist in maintaining the department's Engineering documents and records.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of spare tooling, details, and parts.
  • Lead and assist in work cell rearrange improvements with Lean Manufacturing concepts.
  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformities relating to product, process, and quality system.
  • Identify and record any problems relating to the product, process and quality system.
  • Perform other essential job functions as assigned.
