About The Position

This role is responsible for participating in and contributing to Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities for product launches at both the Corporate and Plant levels. The position also involves contributing to Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives, including Champion Team activities for C.I. In Processes, Scrap Reduction, and Metal Savings. The engineer will participate in tooling design reviews and approvals, ensuring feasibility, production worthiness, and adherence to product design intent and company standards. They will act as a company representative in tool shop run-offs and coordinate plant activities for homeline tryouts of new tooling and fixtures to meet PPAP dates. The role requires providing engineering expertise and assistance to Skilled Trades for resolving tooling issues, designing special tooling and fixtures, and contributing expertise to achieve plant performance objectives and LTA Cost Reduction programs. Additionally, the engineer will assist in maintaining engineering documents and records, developing and maintaining spare tooling, and leading/assisting in work cell rearrangement improvements using Lean Manufacturing concepts. The position is authorized to initiate action to prevent nonconformities and identify/record problems related to product, process, and quality systems.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a two year College Technical degree or equivalent experience.
  • Six years experience in the field.
  • Experience in Tool and Die making.
  • Experience in a stamping plant.
  • Knowledge and Experience with Lean Manufacturing.
  • Ability to verbally communicate well.
  • Ability to write technical reports.
  • Computer literate.
  • AutoCad or Cad Experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Four year apprenticeship in Tool and Die making preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Participate and contribute in Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities for product launches both at the Corporate and Plant levels.
  • Participate and contribute in MOS (Midway Operating Systems) activities as required for Continuous Improvement i.e. Champion Team activities for C.I. In Processes, Scrap Reduction, and Metal Savings when assigned.
  • Participate and contribute in tooling design reviews and approvals including: Engineering changes to assure feasibility, production worthiness, and meeting product design intent as well as Midway Products Group Tooling and Fixture Standards.
  • Act as company representative in tool shop run offs to assure that tooling fixtures meet the design specifications and conformance to company build standards and production performance standards.
  • Coordinate as required plant activities for homeline tryouts of new tooling and fixtures to assure the PPAP dates are met.
  • Provide Engineering expertise, direction and assistance as required or requested to the Skilled Trades in resolving tooling and related problems.
  • Designs special tooling and fixtures as required.
  • Contribute as required Tool and Process Engineering expertise to achieve plant performance objectives and LTA Cost Reduction programs.
  • Assists in maintaining the department's Engineering documents and records.
  • Assist in the development and the maintenance of spare tooling, details, and parts for all new and existing tools, fixtures, and special equipment as required.
  • Lead and assist in work cell rearrange improvements with Lean Manufacturing concepts.
  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformities relating to product, process, and quality system.
  • Identify and record any problems relating to the product, process and quality system.
  • Performs other essential job functions as assigned.
