TIG Welder
About The Position
The Welder performs TIG welding and fabrication of custom parts and components using ISI-supplied drawings and blueprints, maintaining tolerances of +/- .010 and/or .5% angular. The role includes manual fabrication and collaboration with machinists throughout each phase of a project. The Welder must be familiar with metallurgy, primarily stainless steel; select suitable weld settings and filler rods; produce vacuum-tight welds, including in hard-to-reach areas; and braze different materials while maintaining a proper vacuum-tight seal. The position also involves operating a positioner table, controlling heat zones and pulsing, and determining the proper order of operations. Other duties may be assigned, and the employee must follow all ISI rules defined in the Handbook.
Requirements
- Associate degree or certification from a welding training program.
- At least one year of applicable experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of concrete variables.
- Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to take direction from a supervisor.
- Ability to meet or exceed job schedules.
- Close attention to detail on blueprints.
- Ability to follow work rules.
- Familiarity with metallurgy, primarily stainless steel.
- Knowledge of proper weld settings for various materials and filler rod selection when needed.
Responsibilities
- TIG weld and fabricate custom parts and components using supplied drawings and blueprints while maintaining specified tolerances.
- Perform manual fabrication, including port alignment, scribing, cutting or coping, tacking, tuning, and welding.
- Collaborate closely with machinists throughout each phase of the manufacturing process.
- Select appropriate weld settings and filler rods for different materials.
- Produce vacuum-tight welds, including in hard-to-reach areas.
- Identify the proper order of operations, including the main datum point and sequence of hole penetration.
- Weld while operating a positioner table.
- Control heat zones and pulsing.
- Braze different materials while maintaining a proper vacuum-tight seal.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Follow all ISI rules defined in the Handbook.
