About The Position
The ThinkBIG Scholarship Program, a partnership between Thompson Tractor and South Georgia Technical College (SGTC), is a paid, two-year program designed to provide participants with an Associate's Degree in Applied Diesel Technology. This program combines academic coursework with hands-on training at a local Thompson Tractor branch, focusing on generator operation, engine technology, and automatic transfer switch troubleshooting and repair. Participants will engage in paid, rotational 8-week internships and Caterpillar-specific technical training.
Requirements
- Age 18+
- High school diploma or equivalent required at the start of the program.
- Valid driver’s license & clean driving record.
- Ability to pass drug screen, physical, and background check.
- Meet SGTC and Thompson Tractor admission requirements.
- Qualifying ACT, SAT, or ACCUPLACER scores.
Responsibilities
- Participate in 8-week classroom and lab sessions at SGTC.
- Engage in paid, rotational 8-week internships.
- Receive Caterpillar-specific technical training.
- Focus on heavy equipment engines, marine propulsion systems, and power generator repair.
- Troubleshoot and repair automatic transfer switches.
