About The Position
The ThinkBIG Scholarship Program is a paid, two-year college-level program offered in partnership with South Georgia Technical College (SGTC). It combines academic courses with hands-on training at a local Thompson Tractor branch. Participants will earn an Associate's Degree in Applied Diesel Technology while gaining real-world experience through paid internships, Caterpillar-specific training, and advanced diagnostics on heavy equipment. The program focuses on machine diagnostics and repair, including engines, hydraulics, powertrains, and fuel systems. Key areas of study include heavy equipment engines, marine propulsion systems, and power generator repair. Upon successful completion, graduates are offered guaranteed employment as a technician at Thompson Tractor, with opportunities for career advancement into leadership and management roles.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent required at the start of the program.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a drug screen, physical, and background check.
- Meet SGTC and Thompson Tractor admission standards.
- Qualifying ACT, SAT, or ACCUPLACER scores.
Responsibilities
- Participate in paid, rotating 8-week internships.
- Attend 8-week classroom and lab sessions at SGTC.
- Undergo Caterpillar-specific technical training.
- Perform machine diagnostics and repair on engines, hydraulics, powertrains, and fuel systems.
- Work with heavy equipment engines, marine propulsion systems, and power generator repair.
