About The Position

Ochsner Rehabilitation Hospital is seeking a per-diem Therapy Aide for its inpatient rehabilitation hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. The hospital provides care for people facing medical, physical, emotional, and vocational challenges related to brain and spinal cord injuries, neurological disorders, orthopedic issues, amputations, and multiple traumas. The Therapy Aide supports therapists with patient-related tasks, transfers, positioning, transportation, and preparation for therapy sessions. The organization offers an extensive orientation program and notes that the role may provide potential opportunities for full-time employment. Part-time and per-diem employees may qualify for 401(k) participation after reaching 1,000 hours within their first anniversary or a subsequent calendar year.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Certified BLS, or completion of BLS within the first 90 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

• One or more years of hospital experience as a therapy aide.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient-related tasks assigned by a therapist.
• Lift patients to and from mats, treatment and tilt tables, wheelchairs, and other appropriate equipment.
• Assist patients with transfers to all surfaces.
• Assist patients in donning and doffing appliances specific to the facility or department.
• Position patients in parallel bars and prepare them for standing with appropriate orthotic or prosthetic devices and equipment.
• Transport patients to and from therapy as needed.
• Assist therapists with other appropriate patient-related treatment activities and provide equipment.
• Assist with equipment setup and patient positioning in preparation for therapy sessions, as outlined in the State Practice.
