Theater & Audio-Visual Technician
About The Position
The Theater & Audio-Visual Technician sets up and operates audio-visual equipment, including projectors, sound systems, video monitors, and theatrical lighting. The role provides support in meeting rooms and lecture halls, as well as at events in the Charles B. Wang Theater. The technician assists the Production Manager with executing event audio, video, and lighting systems, including programming lights, creating lighting looks, and mixing sound. At times, the technician may serve as lead technician and/or stage manager. The role also maintains advanced audio-visual and theatrical equipment through focusing lights, upkeep, and minor repairs, and assists the Production Manager with job-specific training for student assistants. Other duties or projects may be assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission. This is a part-time, FLSA Non-Exempt appointment eligible for FLSA overtime provisions. Evening and weekend work will be required at times. The university is unable to sponsor candidates for work visas. Applicants should include a resume/CV and cover letter with the online application.
Requirements
- Associate's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). In lieu of an Associate's degree, two years of directly related full-time experience or a combination of education and experience totaling two years may be considered.
- One year of directly related full-time experience in audio-visual and/or theatrical production.
Nice To Haves
- Two or more additional years of directly related full-time experience in audio-visual and/or theatrical production.
- Experience training other technicians.
- Experience with stage electrics, theatrical lighting design, audio systems for events, video and projection equipment, or stage management.
Responsibilities

- Maintain advanced audio-visual and theatrical equipment, including focusing lights, upkeep, and minor repairs.
- Assist the Production Manager in providing job-specific training for student assistants.
- Perform other duties or projects as assigned, appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
