About The Position

Estrada Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Test Engineer to own quality for a secure, role-based analytics platform for a public university research institute. The platform will analyze law enforcement traffic-stop data submitted monthly by more than one hundred police agencies, providing on-demand statewide, agency-level, and officer-level measures, statistical testing, and role-based access for researchers, police executives, agency analysts, and the public. The platform is built in Python, uses a columnar analytics engine, is hosted on Microsoft Azure, and must meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. The Test Engineer will create and maintain traceable automated tests for role-based access, data accuracy, application functionality, accessibility, performance, and security. They will coordinate client user acceptance testing through defect resolution and sign-off, manage defects by severity, and report quality status in weekly project updates. This is a remote, US-based engagement estimated at about 440 hours over a nine-month implementation, or roughly 12 hours per week. Work is expected to be heaviest in months five through seven. Regular video meetings with the client project team are scheduled on Eastern time. The expected start is the first quarter of 2027. Quarterly-release regression testing over a three-year term may be possible, contingent on contract award. The rate is $45 to $70 per hour, depending on experience. Candidates must consent to the client-required background check. The candidate's name and a resume summary will be included in ECI's proposal.

  • Experience testing data pipelines or reporting, including using SQL for reconciliation, record counts, totals, and duplicate checks.
  • Accessibility testing experience to WCAG 2.1 AA using axe and a screen reader.
  • Experience leading user acceptance testing with business users and producing sign-off evidence.
  • Must be based in the United States and able to pass a background check.
  • Must consent to a client-required background check covering criminal history for the past seven years, sex offender registries, and Social Security number verification.

  • Build and maintain automated API tests for every endpoint and user role, including requests that must be refused.
  • Test data loads by reconciling platform totals with source files and published figures and verifying duplicate removal, quarantine rules, and load reports.
  • Automate browser tests for dashboards, filters, maps, drill-downs, and exports across Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari on desktop and tablet.
  • Conduct accessibility testing to WCAG 2.1 Level AA using automated checks, keyboard-only walkthroughs, and screen reader testing with NVDA; log issues and verify fixes.
  • Run performance tests on large selections and concurrent users, and support security testing including permission-bypass attempts, session handling, and export controls.
  • Coordinate user acceptance testing with the client, including test scripts, test data, defect triage, retesting, and sign-off evidence.
