About The Position

The Asian American Studies Program, a valued part of the Department of Anthropology, seeks qualified candidates to teach undergraduate courses. The program offers a minor and a new major starting in academic year 2026-27, focusing on the history and contemporary experiences of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Courses explore themes such as local and ethnic history, trans-Pacific contact, cultural change, and interethnic relations, familiarizing students with the historical, socioeconomic, and cultural adaptations of Asian peoples in the United States.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in Ethnic Studies or a closely related field, with an emphasis in Asian American Studies, from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.
  • A background check must be completed satisfactorily.
  • Compliance with California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act requirements.
  • Work must be performed within the State of California.

  • A commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, evidenced by prior teaching experiences, teaching evaluations, or other evidence.
  • Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation, delivery, conducting, proctoring, and grading of lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams.
  • Ensuring all classes are offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester, in the assigned mode (asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid).

Benefits

  • Commensurate salary based on qualifications and experience within the established salary range.
  • Salary range for Temporary Faculty with a Master's degree is $5,507-6,677 per month when teaching full time (15 WTUs).
  • Starting salaries are usually at or near the minimum of the range.
  • Actual monthly salary adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per academic term.
