The Africana Studies department is seeking qualified candidates to teach undergraduate courses. These courses may include Introduction to Africana Studies, Slavery and the American Experience, Critical Thinking About Race, Black Popular Culture, Black Protest, and Law, Policing, and the Black Community, among others, as needed to meet educational goals. Temporary faculty members are responsible for adhering to university policies, preparing and delivering lectures, holding office hours, assigning and grading homework, quizzes, projects, and exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled, in the assigned mode (asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid). Appointments are contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to the collective bargaining agreement's 'Order of Work' provisions. Appointees must demonstrate eligibility to work in the U.S.; the university does not sponsor work visas. Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience, based on the CSU Salary Schedule for Academic Year Lecturers (Class Code 2358). The monthly salary range for a Temporary Faculty with a Master's degree teaching full-time (15 WTUs) is $5,507-$6,677. Starting salaries are typically at or near the minimum. Actual salary will be adjusted based on assigned WTUs. This is a continuously open pool of part-time lecturers, with positions filled as needed based on student enrollment and funding. The number of positions varies. Appointments are temporary and may be made shortly before the academic term begins, requiring availability on short notice. The pool remains active for two academic terms; reapplication is necessary to remain in the pool.
