About The Position

The Sociology department at California State University, Fresno, seeks qualified candidate(s) for its temporary faculty pool to teach undergraduate courses. These courses may include SOC 1: Intro to Sociology, SOC 3: Critical Thinking about Society, SOC 111: Race & Ethnicity, SOC 125: Social Science Statistics, SOC 130W: Contemporary Social Issues (Writing Course), or other classes as needed to fulfill educational goals. Appointments are contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and are subject to the order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association. Appointees must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States, as Fresno State is not a sponsoring agency for these temporary faculty positions. Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience, placed within the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code = 2358 for Academic Year Lecturers). The salary range for Temporary Faculty with a Master's degree is $5,507-6,677 per month when teaching full time (15 WTUs), with starting salaries typically at or near the minimum. Actual monthly salary will be adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per academic term. This temporary faculty pool is continuously open, with positions filled as needed based on student enrollment and funding. It serves as a pool of part-time lecturers, and the number of positions varies each semester. Appointments are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term, requiring applicants to be available on short notice. The pool remains active for two academic terms, after which interested individuals must reapply. Requirements

  • A Master's degree in Sociology or related field from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Perform work from within the State of California (for initial employment or return from a 12-month break in service on or after January 1, 2022).
  • Disclosure of any final administrative decision or final judicial decision determining sexual harassment within the last 7 years (after minimum qualifications are met and before an offer of employment is extended).
  • Sign a release form that authorizes the release of information by the applicant’s current and/or former employers to the CSU concerning any substantiated allegations of misconduct (for applicants reaching the final stages of the application process).
  • Satisfactory completion of a background check (including criminal records check).

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Adherence to and implementation of university and system-wide policies as directed per Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph 2.
  • Preparation, delivery, conducting, proctoring, and grading (as appropriate) lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams.
  • Offering and meeting all classes as scheduled throughout the entire semester, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.e. asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid).
