About The Position

Telesitters are responsible to remotely observe, document, and communicate patient safety concerns in the patient setting via video monitoring. The role involves continuously observing the activity and behavior of multiple patients at a monitor station utilizing telesitter software to ensure a safe patient environment. Telesitters verbally redirect patients over a digital 2-way audio device and immediately summon nursing staff if the patient requires assistance. They identify potential patient safety risks/concerns and communicate them to the RN, and participate in the hand-off of pertinent patient information/behavior at shift change. They also arrange meal breaks and other relief times prior to leaving the monitoring station to ensure constant patient observation. Telesitters provide explanations as necessary but do not counsel or provide opinions, and seek assistance when a patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others. They participate in collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues and seek assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard from patient rooms, reporting findings to the RN in a timely manner. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Basic computer skills – Microsoft applications required.
  • Effective communication skills required.
  • Constant (67-100% of workday) sitting and use of arms and hands.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 10 lbs.
  • Auditory and visual skills.
  • Possesses critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a hospital environment preferred.
  • Previous clinical and direct patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Continuously observes activity and behavior of multiple patients at a monitor station utilizing telesitter software to ensure a safe patient environment.
  • Verbally redirects patient over digital 2-way audio device that is in the patient room.
  • Immediately summons the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance.
  • Identifies potential patient safety risks/concerns and communicates to the RN.
  • Participates in hand-off of pertinent patient information/behavior at shift change.
  • Arranges meal break and other relief times prior to leaving monitoring station so that backup may be provided to ensure constant patient observation.
  • Provides patient with explanations as necessary but does not counsel or provide opinions.
  • Seeks assistance when a patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others.
  • Participates in collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues.
  • Seeks assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard from patient rooms and reports findings to the RN in a timely manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
