About The Position

Haywood Regional Medical Center is seeking a PRN Telemetry Technician for its 22-bed Progressive Care Unit/Telemetry unit. The unit cares primarily for patients with respiratory failure and cardiac conditions and is staffed by RNs, CNAs, Telemetry Technicians, and unit secretaries. The technician uses cardiac monitoring technology to support high-quality patient care and optimal outcomes. The schedule is as needed and varies.

Requirements

• Current listing as an EMT, EMT-P, CNA, SRNA, or CMA.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Complete Cardiac Telemetry Certification within one year of hire.
• Evidence of successful completion of a Telemetry/Dysrhythmia course.
• Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Nice To Haves

• Preferred or completion of the first semester clinical rotation in an accredited Nursing Degree Program (ADN or BSN).
• Completion of a basic telemetry monitoring course and/or competency training for basic arrhythmia interpretation may be required, as determined by the department director.

Responsibilities

• Perform continual surveillance of multiple monitors.
• Identify significant arrhythmias and signs of patient distress, intervene appropriately, and identify and correct artifacts.
• Report abnormal assessment and telemetry findings, and changes in patients’ physical, mental, or emotional conditions, to nursing staff.
• Test equipment to ensure proper working order and report equipment problems to a supervisor.
