About The Position

Select Specialty Hospital - Madison is a critical illness recovery hospital providing inpatient post-ICU services to chronically and critically ill patients who need extended healing and recovery. The Telemetry Technician supports patient care by continuously monitoring assigned telemetry and ensuring alarms receive appropriate, timely responses. The position is per diem/PRN on 12-hour night shifts in Madison, Wisconsin, at $25.00 per hour.

The technician identifies basic and lethal rhythms and artifacts, maintains EKG monitor alarms, and completes EKG interpretations. Strip interpretations must be validated by an RN. The employer provides an extensive orientation program and notes that strong performance may lead to potential full-time opportunities.

Requirements

• Complete and pass the EKG class for Monitor Techs and required competencies on the education platform within 30 days of starting in the position.
• Pass other tests and competencies as required by Select Medical.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred background as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Licensed Paramedic, or RN nursing student with EKG training. LPNs are limited to working as telemetry technicians.

Responsibilities

• Continuously observe assigned monitors and respond to alarms promptly and appropriately.
• Verify identification of basic rhythms, lethal rhythms, and artifact.
• Maintain EKG monitor alarms and respond to alarms as needed.
• Complete EKG interpretations, including rate, regularity, PRI, QRS, QTI, QTc, ST segment, waveform alterations, and rhythm interpretation.
• Ensure strip interpretations are validated by an RN.
