About The Position

The Emerging Business Manager is responsible for evaluating, managing, and dispositioning Strategic Research Group (SRG) emerging market projects and businesses outside Seagate’s core HDD portfolio. The role owns SRG project disposition and commercialization activities, providing objective business assessments and recommendations on whether projects should continue, be licensed or sold, partnered, spun out, or discontinued. It requires business acumen, strategic thinking, cross-functional leadership, and experience assessing the commercial viability of new technologies, products, and business opportunities. The position leads commercialization assessments, evaluates market attractiveness, competitive positioning, technical readiness, and financial viability, and develops business cases, commercialization strategies, and value creation plans. It also supports the transition of mature projects into business units, external partnerships, licensing arrangements, or standalone ventures. As process owner for the SRG Project Disposition framework for non-HDD projects, the role establishes and maintains governance, stage-gate reviews, decision criteria, and reporting mechanisms; coordinates disposition reviews and executive decision-making forums; and ensures consistent evaluation methodologies across the portfolio. The role reviews emerging market projects and businesses for strategic alignment and commercialization readiness, monitors portfolio health, risks, opportunities, and resource needs, and communicates recommendations to stakeholders. The position orchestrates collaboration among Research, Product Management, Finance, Legal, Corporate Development, Strategy, and Executive Leadership. It facilitates executive reviews and presents recommendations supported by quantitative and qualitative analysis. Strategic analysis includes market, customer, technology, and competitive assessments; identifying commercialization barriers and mitigations; evaluating licensing, acquisition, partnership, and monetization opportunities; and using business modeling, scenario planning, and financial analysis to support fact-based decisions. Accountable deliverables include coordinating SRG disposition activities across the emerging technology portfolio; owning and improving the disposition process for non-HDD initiatives; developing executive-ready recommendations; maintaining portfolio health metrics, governance reviews, and commercialization readiness assessments; and delivering business cases and commercialization plans that support investment decisions. The role is based in Shakopee, Minnesota, on-site or hybrid, with travel up to 10%. The estimated base salary range is $124,000–$180,000. Salary depends on work location and job-related skills, experience, and education or training.
