About The Position

The laboratory technologist works closely with students. She is responsible for preparing practical experiments, exercises, and learning activities so that students master the concepts taught during a course or program. The incumbent provides a higher level of technical support for complex issues requiring a high degree of independent judgment, technical specialization, and relevant experience. The incumbent makes their specialized technical skills available to professors, administrative staff, and students and exercises independent judgment to determine services and methods that meet user needs.

Requirements

  • Three-year diploma in computer systems technology.
  • At least two years of relevant experience
  • Mastery of spoken and written French and good knowledge of spoken and written English
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to evaluate various files
  • Higher degree of judgment and problem-solving
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated aptitude for working independently and as part of a team as needed.
  • Enthusiasm, diplomacy, and initiative
  • Ability to work under pressure and quickly
  • Ability to communicate with various people
  • Appreciable degree of judgment, organization, and analytical ability
  • Knowledge of computers and commercial software (Word processing, spreadsheet, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and conduct common laboratory experiments demonstrating the link between theory and test results.
  • Modify standard laboratory tests according to received directives.
  • Prepare laboratory manuals for students.
  • Participate in the development of teaching tools from given concepts.
  • Explain how to use equipment and facilities.
  • Design and develop equipment, systems, material facilities, etc., to meet user needs in terms of results.
  • Plan, organize, and carry out experiments and demonstrations to explain the procedures and theoretical principles involved.
  • Evaluate equipment and other resources and make recommendations before purchase.
  • Control supplies inventory and budgets.
  • May assist in evaluating students regarding the learning activities in which they participate.
