Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in controls design, industrial automation or similar
  • Mastery of controls development software using standard Controls Programming Languages such as Function Block Diagram FBD, Ladder Logic Diagram LD, Structured Text ST (preference given to FBD and ST)
  • Mastery of development software for HMI design whether smaller scale HMIs for Machine Control or Data Acquisition Systems is required
  • Extensive knowledge of Serial-based and Ethernet-based industrial communication protocols and their application is required.
  • Comprehensive understanding of concept of Object-Oriented Programming as it applies to Programming Languages in general and Controls Programming Languages in particular is required, such as Complex Data Types, Function and Function Blocks instantiation etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of Controls Systems hardware platforms is required
  • Ability to communicate technical matters in plain and concise language both in writing and verbally
  • Extensive knowledge of controls system instrumentation is required
  • Understanding of hierarchy and interaction of different layers of Controls Systems is required
  • Candidate should be able to demonstrate a proven track of accomplished controls design projects and duties and responsibilities on the projects
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote

  • Knowledge of HVAC specific communication protocols is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of other Computer Programming Languages such as C, C++, C#, JavaScript, Python and others is considered an asset but not required

Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains Chiller Controls Software, both Chiller Application and User Interface (UI), which involves software versioning system, software maintenance and documenting software changes, maintains IO and data points lists etc.
  • Provides tech support and expertise for any controls related troubleshooting, verification and validation whether for chillers in the field or during R&D prototypes testing
  • Conducts software testing, startup and commissioning of chillers and heat pumps
  • Writes technical documents related to controls design and programming such as sequences of operations, user guides and software manuals
  • Stays up to date with the latest controls developments in the industry
  • Interfaces with controls components suppliers and provides advice to supply chain ensuring controls components meet controls design requirements
  • Collaborates with other design teams such as mechanical and electrical design to ensure overall coherent product design
  • Implements, configures and fine-tunes Serial-based and Ethernet-based industrial communication protocols, estimating performance and hardware requirements
  • Defines areas and implements controls systems improvements
  • Estimates and provides scope of work and timeline for controls design projects
  • Provides mentoring and coaching to more junior staff regarding methods and tools of chillers controls systems design
