About The Position
The Service Technician performs vehicle repair and maintenance work assigned in accordance with dealership and factory standards. The technician may also oversee the work of assigned apprentice technicians. The role includes diagnosing vehicle malfunctions, completing repairs, documenting work, communicating with service advisors and the parts department, and maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly work environment. The technician must follow company safety procedures and applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including regulations governing hazardous-waste disposal.
Requirements
- High CSI is a must.
- ASE or manufacturing training.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Manual dexterity.
- Good judgment.
- Authorized to work in the USA.
- Able to perform duties and responsibilities safely.
- Able to pass pre-employment testing, including background checks, MVR, and drug testing, and provide a valid driver’s license.
Responsibilities
- Receive repair orders from the dispatcher and take them to the stall area.
- Perform work specified on repair orders efficiently and accurately in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
- Diagnose the cause of malfunctions and perform repairs.
- Communicate with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
- Save and tag parts when work is under warranty or when requested by the customer.
- Examine vehicles to determine whether additional safety or service work is required.
- Notify the service advisor immediately if additional work is not needed or required.
- Notify the service advisor immediately if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
- Document work performed.
- Road-test vehicles when required or refer them to the test technician, without using customer vehicles for personal errands.
- Supervise assigned apprentice technicians.
- Attend factory-sponsored training classes.
- Keep abreast of factory technical bulletins.
- Ensure customers’ cars are kept clean.
- Keep the shop area neat and clean and account for dealership-owned tools at all times.
- Understand and follow federal, state, and local regulations, including those governing hazardous-waste disposal.
- Follow company safety policies and procedures and immediately report accidents to a manager or supervisor.
