The mechanical maintenance position is responsible for ensuring plant equipment is operational at all times through technical knowledge and decision-making. This includes performing breakdown repairs, preventive and predictive maintenance, and root cause analysis. The associate must be available to work overtime, during off-hours, weekends, or as otherwise needed, with flexible work hours required for breakdowns or other plant needs.

Requirements

  • Experienced in using and cutting with a torch.
  • Experienced in stick and MIG welding.
  • Knowledgeable of pneumatics and hydraulics systems.
  • Knowledgeable of how to thread/tap pipe and machine threads.
  • Experienced on using hand tools and power tools.
  • Knowledgeable with shaft alignment.
  • Knowledgeable on how to safely change out pumps, motors, gearboxes, etc.
  • Knowledgeable with maintenance of industrial power transmission components to include: belts, sheaves, chains, sprockets, couplings, gearboxes, etc.
  • Knowledgeable with demounting and mounting the various types of bearings.
  • Must not be afraid of heights or tight spaces.
  • Knowledgeable of lubricants and lubrication technics.
  • Must be self-motivated and willing to take initiative on projects with limited input from direct supervisor.
  • Able to think on their own, reason through problems, make decisions as appropriate, follow procedures when applicable, and follow instructions/directions when given.
  • Must possess and demonstrate strong abilities to read and learn from manuals and other documentation.
  • Display good leadership skills and have good communication skills.
  • One-year Industrial Maintenance Technical Degree.
  • Ability to be licensed for and operate a forklift, scissor lift, or boom lift as needed.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Ability to weld.
  • Ability to use cutting torch.
  • Ability to drive forklift.
  • Adhere to and comprehend safety specs.
  • Basic knowledge of computers.
  • Must be able to work all shifts and weekends when needed.
  • Ability to read blueprints.

Responsibilities

  • Abide by all Milliken and Valway Plant Policies.
  • Participate in plant and team meetings.
  • Participate in the Safety program by joining a Safety Subcommittee and other safety programs and activities, staying active and in compliance with safety guidelines including lock out tag out, ladder, fall prevention, hand tool, power tool, and PPE.
  • Follow plant environmental rules and understand environmental impacts and aspects of job related activities.
  • Learn to identify all plant alarms and know how to respond to all emergency alarms.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas as part of general housekeeping and organization expectations.
  • Read, comprehend, and complete required forms, checklists, instructions, manuals, and manufacturer’s literature as needed to perform jobs and communicate effectively.
  • Operate a lift truck, man-lift, aerial lift, or other equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and predictive maintenance skills and activities as needed.
  • Undertake additional training, attending and meeting minimum criteria.
  • Take on additional duties or activities as assigned.
  • Help and support other associates as needed to build teammanship.
  • Perform lubrication as indicated in AMMS.
  • Order parts/supplies and check out parts from the supply room.
  • Cover another mechanical technician's work order or PM responsibility in their absence.
  • Be flexible in the work schedule to be available to work on equipment as needed, reachable during off-shift times, and willing to come to work during off-shifts to correct problems with assigned equipment.
  • Learn and understand assigned equipment from all aspects, including mechanical systems, principles, and operation.
  • Accept responsibility and ownership of assigned equipment/duties by learning equipment thoroughly, being proactive in recognizing and addressing problems, performing needed maintenance, and bringing needed changes in documentation, procedures, and operating practices to management's attention.
  • Share information and knowledge, educate, and enable other associates to perform duties.
  • Learn new skills and knowledge to perform job duties as the job evolves with time, technology, and plant needs, including taking and passing classes as requested/required.
  • Travel if requested for classes, to visit equipment manufacturers, or as otherwise needed for the job.
  • Troubleshoot breakdowns and abnormal machine operation.
  • Work with or lead contractors as needed.
  • Assist Microprocessor Technicians and other Technicians when time allows or as assigned.
  • Suggest improvements around the entire process.
  • Perform all other duties as specified by their manager and other duties not specifically listed.
