Technician B performs a broad range of automotive maintenance and repair tasks, including brakes, rotors, fluid exchanges, oil changes, transmission and differential work, cooling system maintenance, tire repair and replacement, and additional services such as replacing wiper blades and air filters. The role requires average mechanical knowledge and includes more complex repairs and diagnostics than those performed by a Tech C, such as electrical systems and minor engine work. Technicians can work independently on most tasks, may begin training Tech C technicians, and assist Tech A technicians with complex repairs and diagnosis. Technician B communicates with customers about necessary preventive maintenance, diagnoses vehicle problems, inspects vehicles for additional safety or service needs, and documents work performed and recommended. Pay includes an hourly rate and a company-standard commission percentage. The position requires a toolbox and tools on site, and the employee must sign a contract concerning the uniform policy and procedure plan.
