The role supports advanced hardware, software, robotics, and autonomy products, translating complex engineering concepts into accurate, actionable information for operators, defense customers, and internal engineering teams. The Technical Writer will establish and maintain technical standards, reduce documentation debt, and define the tone, voice, and quality of technical artifacts. Documentation includes developer-facing Interface Control Documents (ICDs), operational and maintenance manuals for fielded systems, and contract deliverables that meet rigorous defense standards. The position also involves managing documentation roadmaps, supporting customer and contract delivery requirements, and organizing content for rapid operational use.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of technical writing experience developing documentation for complex hardware, software, or integrated systems.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and synthesize complex engineering concepts, schematics, and technical specifications into concise, usable content.
  • Exceptional written, editorial, and verbal communication skills tailored to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience collaborating directly with engineering and product teams throughout the product lifecycle, including design, build, test, and deployment.
  • Proficiency with modern technical documentation tools and content management platforms, such as Confluence, Jira, SharePoint, XML, Markdown, or Word.
  • Ability to work autonomously, prioritize competing demands, and meet deliverables in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and possess, or be eligible to obtain and maintain, an active U.S. Secret security clearance or higher.
  • Subject to pre-employment and randomized substance screening, as required by the Company.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, robotics, autonomy, or high-consequence hardware/software manufacturing environments.
  • Working knowledge of military/DoD technical documentation standards, such as MIL-STD-40051, S1000D, or IETMs.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering artifacts such as Interface Control Documents (ICDs), system specifications, and Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) documentation.
  • Experience with docs-as-code workflows, API documentation, or automation tooling used to manage high-volume technical documentation systems.

Responsibilities

  • Research, write, and maintain technical documentation across hardware and software product lines, including Operator Guides, Maintenance Manuals, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), Data Sheets, Release Notes, and Troubleshooting Procedures.
  • Collaborate with systems, hardware, software, and test engineers, product managers, and operations teams to translate complex technical architectures into clear, user-friendly documentation.
  • Establish and maintain documentation style guides, standard operating procedures, and templates across tools such as Confluence, SharePoint, and engineering repositories.
  • Identify documentation gaps, plan and track deliverables against product release cycles and program milestones, and communicate delivery risks to leadership.
  • Ensure customer- and contract-required technical data packages meet quality, format, and compliance guidelines, including applicable military standards and government delivery requirements.
  • Advocate for internal developers and military operators by ensuring technical content is intuitive, accurate, and organized for rapid operational use.

  • Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers and are considered part of Anduril's total compensation package.
  • Top-tier benefits for full-time employees, described as a comprehensive, competitive package available at little to no cost to employees and supporting health and recovery.
