Technical Writer

We are looking for a Technical Writer to join our documentation team at Redpanda. In this role, you will be responsible for documenting APIs, command and property reference content, and Wasm transforms. You will collaborate with engineering teams, facilitate knowledge sharing, and define documentation standards. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to work closely with product and engineering leadership and contribute to the growth of our fast-growing startup. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in technical writing for an external developer audience and possess excellent communication skills.

• Collaborate with engineering teams to discuss technologies and workflows, and create top-notch documentation
• Write, format, and edit content, including APIs, rpk commands, configuration property references, and Wasm transforms. Familiarity with YAML is required.
• Facilitate knowledge sharing throughout engineering, PM, and design teams and help colleagues produce accurate, well-written communications
• Partner with content specialists to define documentation standards and best practices
• Participate in assessing and proposing software and methods to continuously improve documentation processes
• Write and revise content/test features with the customer experience as the primary driver
• Participate in community discussions with OSS, prospective, and paying customers
• Be part of a diverse remote distributed team

• 10+ years of experience writing technical documentation for an external developer audience
• Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
• Ability to distill complex technical concepts into clear, comprehensive, developer-focused documentation
• Experience using Git, open-source development, Ascii doc/Antora, front-end web development
• Experience working with open source technologies and communities
• Experience reading code in languages such as Java, golang or Python, and YAML
• Familiarity with data streaming and/or Apache Kafka a plus
