About The Position

DH Pace Company, Inc. is hiring a Technical Training Manager for its Olathe, Kansas office. The role designs and delivers hands-on technical training to build safe, consistent, and skilled technicians across DH Pace locations. It owns the learning path from new-hire technical onboarding through product and skill progression for residential garage door technicians, with planned expansion into selected commercial applications over time. The manager develops curricula, practical competency standards, job aids, and field-ready resources; leads onboarding, courses, and skills labs; coaches technicians in the field; and assesses readiness for independent work. The role also partners with Safety, Operations, Employee Relations, and service leadership to apply incident learnings, reinforce safe practices, improve quality, and support effective customer recommendations.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience installing, servicing, or repairing residential garage doors and openers, or in a closely related skilled trade such as millwright work, industrial mechanics, electrical work, or construction.
  • Working knowledge of hazards associated with the work, including counterbalance systems, openers and controls, and work at heights.
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel overnight to branches.
  • Ability to lift up to 75–100 pounds, work from ladders and lifts, and demonstrate tasks technicians are expected to perform.
  • Clear spoken and written communication.
  • Comfort teaching people with a wide range of experience, including trainees with mechanical aptitude but no door experience.
  • Successful completion of employment verifications, a background check, a drug screen, and driving-record review if applicable, required before hire.

  • Commercial door or dock experience is a plus.
  • Formal trainer experience is preferred.
  • Lead-technician or foreman coaching experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Design, maintain, and update technical curricula for new and experienced technicians, initially covering residential doors, springs and hardware, openers, and related accessories, with potential expansion to selected commercial applications.
  • Develop observable competency standards and skill progression for helper/trainee, technician, and senior technician levels, covering installation, service, troubleshooting, and customer interaction.
  • Create job aids, checklists, and standard work for field supervisors to use after formal training.
  • Keep training materials current with manufacturer updates, code changes, warranty and callback lessons, and safety incidents.
  • Deliver new-hire technical onboarding covering safety fundamentals, tools, product identification, basic electrical and mechanical principles, and supervised practice on training equipment.
  • Run hands-on courses and skills labs at a training location and at branches, covering spring and cable systems, openers, controls, and safe work at heights.
  • Conduct field coaching and ride-alongs to address differences between classroom and job-site performance.
  • Assess competency through practical demonstrations, document results, and recommend readiness for independent work.
  • Partner with the National Service Sales Manager to identify when to recommend repair versus replacement and present good, better, best options to customers.
  • Coach branch managers and lead technicians to promote consistent on-the-job training after branch visits.
  • Embed safety topics into training, including lockout/tagout, fall protection, ladder and lift use, spring and counterbalance hazards, electrical safety, and PPE; reinforce rather than replace the safety program.
  • Partner with Safety, Operations, and Employee Relations on incident learnings and repeat failure modes, and translate findings into training changes.
  • Support quality goals, including fewer callbacks, cleaner installations, accurate paperwork, and technicians able to explain work to customers.
