About The Position

Anthropic is hiring a Technical Program Manager to lead high-priority safety and security programs that advance defense in depth for AI agents. The role coordinates work across teams to strengthen the safe and secure development and deployment of agents, and helps bring internal capabilities to customers and partners so they can use Claude safely and securely. The TPM maintains a company-wide roadmap, translates program goals into measurable phase exit criteria, tracks metrics and risks, and leads the operating rhythm across technical leads, working groups, and executives. The role drives clear communications and decisions, coordinates other TPMs and engineering managers without direct reporting authority, and helps technical leaders resolve cross-team issues across Security, Safeguards, Research, Privacy, Legal, and Product. It also monitors industry incidents, capability changes, and research to inform the threat model and program priorities. The role requires a background leading complex technical programs and expertise in at least one relevant safety or security domain. Anthropic describes its team as collaborative and research-focused, and offers competitive compensation and benefits. The position follows a location-based hybrid policy: staff are currently expected to work from an office at least 25% of the time, though some roles may require more.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience in one or more of the stated relevant areas.
  • Experience leading company-wide technical programs, especially company-wide security programs, involving multiple workstreams, executive sponsors, and other program managers.
  • Strong background in at least one program domain: agent or infrastructure security; ML classifiers and monitoring; evaluations; inference infrastructure; protecting an organization’s most sensitive data; or shipping security controls to customers.
  • Experience working closely with ML research teams and understanding how models are trained and evaluated.
  • Ability to work independently, set direction, make decisions, and know when to escalate.
  • Ability to lead discussions and hold senior engineers, researchers, and executives accountable without formal authority.
  • Strong, fast writing skills for audiences ranging from executive briefs to company-wide announcements.
  • Ability and interest in using AI tools such as Claude to automate tracking, reporting, and follow-up.
  • Interest in AI safety and keeping powerful systems under human oversight.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Relevant field of study, demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and extend the company-wide roadmap for work contributing to the program, keeping it accurate and relevant amid a fast operational tempo.
  • Translate program goals into measurable exit criteria for each phase, adapting to new capabilities and changes in the threat landscape.
  • Maintain key metrics and dashboards.
  • Chair leads meetings, working groups, design reviews, and executive check-ins; document decisions and actions, distribute regular situation reports, and follow up on open issues.
  • Lead executive and contributor communications, including discussions, regular reports, design-document contributions, and decisional documents; clearly communicate status and where assistance is needed.
  • Maintain a risk register covering risks, exceptions, and risk acceptances, and bring decisions to the appropriate decision makers.
  • Partner with internal communications on progress updates and rollouts that change how employees work with Claude.
  • Coordinate subject-matter TPMs and engineering managers who do not report to the role; set shared standards, identify coverage gaps, and augment capacity when needed.
  • Reduce coordination demands on technical leaders by finding owners for cross-team problems, framing tradeoffs across Security, Safeguards, Research, Privacy, Legal, and Product, managing staffing tasks, and organizing exercises to test controls.
  • Track relevant industry incidents, capability shifts, and research across frontier labs, and incorporate lessons into the threat model, roadmap, and risk register.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and benefits
  • Optional equity donation matching
  • Generous vacation and parental leave
  • Flexible working hours
  • Office space for collaboration
  • Visa sponsorship may be available; the company makes reasonable efforts to secure a visa for an offered candidate and retains an immigration lawyer to assist
