Technical Program Manager, Safety

Bedrock Robotics•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

Bedrock is hiring its first dedicated Safety Technical Program Manager to establish the execution structure needed to roll out autonomy capabilities quickly while maintaining rigorous safety practices. As the company expands to new machine types and operational domains, this hands-on individual contributor will own program execution for safety, systems engineering, and state estimation work that enables autonomous heavy equipment to operate safely in real-world environments. The role connects safety strategy with technical delivery, aligning engineering, safety, autonomy, hardware, and field operations through clear communication and influence. The position owns planning and strategic execution for safety and systems programs across the autonomy roadmap, from requirements through validated field deployment. It supports traceable and reusable safety requirements, builds validation plans across simulation and on-site testing, manages technical dependencies and tradeoffs, and drives program reviews, risk management, and change management. The role also reports on roadmap health, delivery status, and safety implications, and translates field signals into prioritized engineering work through issue resolution.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of technical program management experience, including 2+ years leading programs involving safety-critical or high-integrity systems.
  • Domain experience in robotics, autonomous systems, aerospace, or another physical-world safety-critical domain.
  • Working understanding of the software, firmware, and hardware stacks behind real-world autonomy.
  • Working familiarity with a functional safety standard, such as ISO 26262 or IEC 61508, and how it shapes program structure, evidence, and release gates.
  • Working fluency in statistics and probability sufficient to critically interpret validation results and reliability metrics.
  • Understanding of the rigor, validation, and cross-functional coordination required to operate reliably in the physical world.
  • Track record managing complex, cross-functional programs under ambiguity and taking systems from concept to production.
  • Ability to operate at a deep technical level and distill complex risks and interdependencies into aligned, actionable plans for engineers and executives.
  • Strong dependency, risk, and change-management instincts in environments where safety and schedule are both non-negotiable.
  • Track record of thriving in fast-paced, high-ownership environments, with a bias toward building structure to scale through complexity.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Startup experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own planning and strategic execution for the safety and systems portions of the autonomy roadmap, from requirements through validated field deployment.
  • Partner with safety and systems engineering on hazard analysis, validation evidence, and release readiness; support traceable, reusable safety requirements integrated into roadmaps from inception.
  • Build and maintain the validation plan spanning simulation and on-site testing, ensuring system-level changes are verified before reaching customers.
  • Map and manage dependencies and tradeoffs across systems, hardware, software, state estimation, and safety; weigh safety and schedule impacts and identify critical-path single points of failure.
  • Drive program reviews, risk management, and change management for multidisciplinary, safety-critical initiatives.
  • Report on roadmap health, delivery status, and safety implications to support executive decisions and customer-facing discussions.
  • Translate field signals into prioritized engineering work and track issues through resolution.
