Cushman & Wakefield•Cincinnati, OH
•$76,500 - $90,000

About The Position

Cushman & Wakefield is seeking a Technical Instructional Design Manager for its organizational Learning & Development team. The role creates, coordinates, iterates, and oversees instructional design for the skill development of current and future Reliability & Maintenance Engineering (RME) technicians through in-person, virtual, and online learning. Training includes on-the-job components and train-the-trainer content and delivery. The position applies adult learning theory, instructional design practices, and technical-industry experience to develop content and delivery methods that address business needs, and may support coordination of broader L&D efforts. The role collaborates with technical and operational subject matter experts, project leads, field leaders, and L&D colleagues to design and deliver effective training. It evaluates learning through stakeholder feedback and technicians’ demonstrated proficiency, uses generative AI to assist with curriculum development and assessment scoring, and manages multiple content projects, milestones, timelines, and roadblocks.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of broad Learning & Development experience.
  • 2–3 years of experience designing and creating technical learning and development offerings that support simple, effective field-executable training across multiple sites and types of technical equipment.
  • Ability to connect effectively with people in maintenance, operations, engineering, and corporate support roles.
  • Ability to work with a small team and SMEs and oversee direct reports to achieve technical learning and development outcomes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Background or experience in Reliability and Maintenance Engineering training or L&D.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems and design software, especially Workday and Articulate, and ability to learn new systems as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design or a similar field.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with technical and operational subject matter experts and project leads to scope, outline, and design technical learning experiences aligned with skill gaps and client needs.
  • Apply adult learning theory to create learning solutions that work for learners and trainers in the field.
  • Develop, coordinate, and iterate technical content and delivery methods, maintaining instructional rigor and alignment with learning objectives, audience level, and SME input.
  • Use generative AI tools such as Copilot to accelerate curriculum development, then critically evaluate, edit, and refine generated outputs.
  • Build collaborative relationships with leaders in field and support roles.
  • Evaluate training components, experiences, and modalities using participant, SME, and stakeholder feedback, as well as post-training technician proficiency on equipment.
  • Design and grade technical skills assessments using AI-assisted rubrics, and partner with SMEs to validate AI-generated scoring.
  • Balance multiple instructional design projects and requests against shifting timelines, communicating roadblocks, support needs, and changes needed to meet deadlines.
  • Observe train-the-trainer sessions and on-site training as needed to inform iterative design.
  • Collaborate with the L&D team on future needs and direction and provide support as needed.
  • Design in-person train-the-trainer courses and in-person and virtual trainer-led courses, including trainer and participant materials.
  • Communicate instructional design progress to the direct leader and project leaders.
  • Prioritize and track content builds against objectives, progress, and milestones, proactively managing and communicating roadblocks.
