About The Position

PJ Salvage, a California lifestyle brand specializing in sleepwear, loungewear, and lifestyle apparel, is seeking a detail-oriented Technical Designer to translate design intent into clear, accurate, production-ready technical specifications and protect fit, quality, construction, and consistency from initial prototype through production. The role works closely with Design, Product Development, Quality Assurance, and domestic and international vendors to lead fit reviews, communicate technical comments, track samples, and resolve fit or construction issues while meeting seasonal timelines.

The Technical Designer manages fit and construction reviews for assigned styles; evaluates development, fit, and pre-production samples; and maintains accurate specifications, tech packs, standards, and documentation. The position coordinates technical development against seasonal calendars and sourcing strategy, monitors sample progress and milestones, and provides updates on fit progress and outstanding issues. The role requires hands-on experience with knits and wovens, cut-and-sew technical knowledge, strong organization, and the ability to balance product integrity with deadlines. Activewear experience is a plus.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of technical design experience in apparel.
• Strong knowledge of knit and woven construction, garment fit, grading, and production processes.
• Hands-on technical design experience with both knit and woven apparel.
• Experience with cut-and-sew construction and evaluating garment fit, measurements, construction, and quality.
• Ability to create and maintain technical specifications, tech packs, measurement standards, and fit comments.
• Understanding of fit sessions, sample review, grading, tolerances, and product development from prototype through production.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide clear technical direction to vendors.
• Excellent attention to detail, organization, and follow-through while managing multiple styles and deadlines.
• Ability to maintain internal metrics and track sample progress against seasonal calendars.

• Experience using PLM, including creating and maintaining technical specifications and tech packs.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage fit sessions for assigned styles, evaluate garment fit, construction, and workmanship, and drive styles through final fit approval in collaboration with Design and Technical Design.
• Evaluate development, fit, and pre-production samples for measurements, construction, workmanship, and consistency with approved technical specifications.
• Communicate clear, actionable fit, quality, and construction comments to domestic and international vendors.
• Maintain consistent fit and quality standards across seasons and help new vendors understand brand requirements.
• Partner with Quality Assurance and Product Development to investigate and resolve production quality issues.
• Identify fit and construction issues, recommend workable solutions, and help maintain product quality and development timelines.
• Create, maintain, and update production-ready technical specifications and tech packs in PLM, including measurements, grading, construction details, and fit comments.
• Help maintain size and fit standards, grade rules, tolerances, construction standards, and measurement methods.
• Review and validate vendor-submitted graded specifications for accuracy and consistency.
• Develop, maintain, and update standard fit, measurement, grading, and construction blocks as needed.
• Keep technical manuals and related documentation up to date and distribute updates to relevant teams.
• Coordinate technical development for assigned styles in line with seasonal calendars and sourcing strategy.
• Track fit sample progress against vendor timelines, communicate fit comments and technical approvals within established timelines, and flag risks to key milestones.
• Partner with Design, Product Development, Quality Assurance, and vendors to resolve technical issues and keep development on track.
• Maintain internal metrics and provide timely updates on sample status, fit progress, and outstanding issues.
