About The Position

The RN Team Lead – Pre-Admission testing is responsible and accountable for helping coordinate the flow of the Pre-Admission Testing department by providing direction to the nursing team. The Team Lead RN is responsible and accountable for assessing the patient’s fitness for surgery and anesthesia. This requires assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of patients through clinical knowledge and skills. All customers should be treated with actions that contribute to high levels of customer service. This position serves as a liaison between physician offices, clinical nursing staff, surgery scheduling, and anesthesia providers. This position reports to the Prep/PACU Manager. This position has direct reports.

Requirements

  • Current Michigan RN license
  • BCLS required
  • Ambulatory Surgery experience preferred
  • Displays proficiency in navigating multiple electronic medical record systems and other software to access pertinent patient information.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain professionalism by not discussing sensitive topics (i.e team member’s personal information) with staff, physicians and customers.
  • Address customer complaints in the moment on the day of service
  • Hold all team members accountable to company policies and procedures
  • Provide updates to the schedulers on a consistent basis
  • Participate in ongoing process improvement and complete occurrence reports to improve processes and procedures
  • Ensure staffing ratios are appropriate for needs of the center when calling ahead for future dates of service
  • Supports the prep/PACU department
  • Report any unusual or critical situations to the Clinical Managers/Quality Manager and provide documentation of situations per policy
  • Ensure team members receive lunches and breaks per center policy
  • Contributes in the educational process and enhances the program in collaboration with leadership
  • Retrieves scheduling request slips from ASC surgery scheduler.
  • Initiates and prepares the paper chart according to established protocol
  • Retrieves lab and testing results from various EMRs and databases (i.e. NextGen, Epic, Cerner).
  • Communicates via email or phone to physician office staff any missing information.
  • Verifies the surgery schedule daily against current charts to look for add-ons or cancellations.
  • Notifies the physician offices of cancellations due to anesthesia review and documents appropriately.
  • Communicates any outstanding missing patient lab and testing information
  • Maintains the departmental standards quality, quantity and accuracy on all patient accounts.
  • Responds to e-mail, patient texts and voice mail messages in a prompt and timely manner.
  • Obtain the patient’s current medical information and appropriate history.
  • Review the patient’s history and physical report and interview the patient or legal representative.
  • Utilizes ASC Software and practice management system
  • Complete the Pre-op Phone Assessment portion of the Pre-operative record.
  • Provide pertinent pre-procedural patient instructions.
  • Has a clear understanding of the anesthetic agents and medications used by Anesthesia.
  • Communicate testing results to Anesthesia for review if applicable
  • Will address and respond to all complaints in a timely manner; will notify Clinical Director of any physician or patient complaints.
  • Will participate in the QI plan as directed by the Clinical Director and comply with Quality Improvement and adverse incident reporting.
  • Actively participates in staff meetings and in-services and professional organizations.
