About The Position

The College of Engineering at Northeastern University is seeking applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-track position as an Assistant/Associate/Full Teaching Professor to join the first-year engineering faculty. This program aims to transform engineering education by delivering inspiring courses that equip students for future classes and the co-op program. Appointments are made on an annual 8-month basis, with salary commensurate with experience. Non-tenure-track faculty have renewable appointment terms and promotion eligibilities guided by the Faculty Handbook. The primary responsibility is teaching first-year engineering students with an annual academic teaching load of six courses. Class sizes are capped for personalized interaction, often involving multiple sections of the same course. The curriculum emphasizes a Cornerstone approach, integrating design and problem-solving using engineering tools and software within project-based course themes. Instructors are encouraged to develop new themes and projects, including service learning, aligned with their interests. The first-year faculty collaborate as a team to develop course curricula and content, and work together on course delivery and student interactions. Summer work is required for preparation, with opportunities for summer teaching and development activities. There may be opportunities to teach undergraduate courses in engineering disciplines, subject to agreement with first-year and department needs. The role also includes participation in department, university, and professional service activities, such as advising undergraduate students, committee work, student recruiting, educational research, publications, presentations, and continuing education through university programs. This team collaborates closely with academic advisors and faculty across departments, playing a crucial role in student success. The team environment is vital for support, especially for new faculty. First-year faculty must be willing to learn, try new approaches, and be creative, adaptable, and agile.
