About The Position

The Department of Mathematics is accepting applications for Unit 11 Teaching Associate positions for the Fall 2026 semester. This role involves providing classroom instruction for MATH 242: Introduction to Statistics, attending all assigned class times, and leading classroom discussions under the supervision of a faculty member. The Teaching Associate will collaboratively prepare the course syllabus, lesson plans, and materials, and must maintain expertise in the subject area. Responsibilities include identifying course requirements, selecting reading materials, creating and grading student assignments (homework, quizzes, exams, reports), and determining overall course grades based on a defined grading rubric. Additionally, the position requires holding weekly office hours to assist students and participating in the Math Teaching Associate Training Workshop on August 25, 2026. The Teaching Associate classification offers currently enrolled or admitted CSU graduate students part-time employment to gain practical teaching experience related to their advanced studies, assisting faculty with professional and technical activities. Work assignments are closely associated with the student's program of study or academic department.

Responsibilities

  • Attend assigned class time and provide classroom instruction for MATH 242.
  • Attend every class time and lead classroom discussion under supervision of a faculty member.
  • Prepare syllabus, lesson plan, and course materials collaboratively for each class.
  • Maintain expertise in the subject area.
  • Prepare class syllabus based on the template provided by the supervising faculty member.
  • Identify course requirements and reading materials for students.
  • Make assignments to students such as homework assignments, quizzes, exams, reports, etc.
  • Read and stay current with recent developments in the field.
  • Assess student performance and determine course grades for each student.
  • Determine grading scale and grading criteria for all assignments.
  • Grade student work using a well-defined grading rubric.
  • Determine overall course grade for each student.
  • Hold weekly office hours and provide assistance to students as needed.
  • Fully participate in the Math Teaching Associate Training Workshop to be held during on August 25, 2026 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.
