About The Position

The Department of Environment and Geography at California State University San Marcos is seeking lecturers to teach GEOG 110: Introduction to Physical Geography, a lower-division physical science general education (5A) course, during the Fall 2026 semester. The course examines the Earth's place in the solar system, the distribution of solar energy, weather, climate, vegetation, soils, landforms, and the Earth's water system. This course fulfills the Earth Science requirement for elementary subject matter preparation programs. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in Geography, Earth Science, or a related field.
  • Evidence of specialization in physical geography or earth systems science.
  • Higher education teaching experience in geography courses.
  • Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Teach GEOG 110: Introduction to Physical Geography.
  • Examine the place of the Earth in the solar system.
  • Analyze the seasonal and latitudinal distribution of solar energy.
  • Analyze the many elements of weather, climate, vegetation, and soils.
  • Consider the Earth’s major landforms and the processes that shape them.
  • Examine the Earth’s water system.

  • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,507 - $8,000 per full-time month.
