About The Position

This position is for a Teaching Assistant for ESL 110, Academic Foundations in English, Section F200, during the Fall 2026 semester. The role involves assisting in the preparation and delivery of lessons, attending group meetings, and reporting on class activities. The course is integrated, four-skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing), includes grammar review, vocabulary development, study skills, use of IT resources, learning strategies, and intercultural competence. The approach is student-centered, interactive, and task-based, with an emphasis on formative evaluation. This course is offered exclusively on the University of Ottawa campus and requires in-person instruction.

Requirements

• Capacity to facilitate group work through a student-centered, task-based learning approach.
• Capacity to explain the English verb system, sentence structure, and academic vocabulary to second language learners.
• Excellent command of the English language.
• Must be an undergraduate or graduate student.
• Must complete all mandatory legislated training offered by the University.

Nice To Haves

• Previous ESL training and classroom experience is an asset.
• Classroom multimedia experience is an asset.
• Interview may be required.
