About The Position

This position is for a Teaching Assistant for the Laboratory Methods in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology 2 course (BIOC 320) for the Fall 2026 term. The contract period is from Monday, August 31, to Thursday, December 31, 2026. The Teaching Assistant will be responsible for reviewing experimental procedures, supervising laboratory experiments, answering technical and theoretical questions, ensuring safe laboratory practices, and grading lab reports, quizzes, and the final exam. They will also be available to answer questions on the MyCourses Discussion Board and attend weekly TA meetings.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in the Graduate Program in the Department of Biochemistry or within McGill University for Fall 2026 term.
  • Must have taken the BIOC 320 laboratory course in the past.
  • Have at least one (1) year of experience in the Graduate Program.
  • Have taken the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Waste Management courses from Environmental Health and Safety or equivalent.
  • Should have some experience in mammalian tissue culture and taken the course “Safe Use of Biological Safety Cabinets” from McGill Environmental Health and Safety or equivalent.
  • Effective communication skills in English are essential.
  • Must hold a valid study permit covering the TA contract period (for International Students).
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada and willing to work in the province of Quebec.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing in English.

Nice To Haves

  • French is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Review experimental procedures and specific critical steps.
  • Supervise laboratory experiments.
  • Answer technical and theoretical questions on the laboratory experiments.
  • Ensure safe procedures and manipulation in the laboratory.
  • Correct and grade lab reports, quizzes, and final exam.
  • Be available to answer any questions on the Discussion Board in MyCourses.
  • Attend weekly one hour TA meetings with course coordinators.
