About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for TOUR 1P91 - Introduction to Tourism for the Fall D2-1 term. This position involves preparing for and leading tutorials, facilitating discussions, marking and grading coursework, proctoring exams, attending lectures and seminars, and being available to students for questions and meetings. The compensation rate depends on the applicant's degree level, with specific rates for those without a 4-year honours degree or 3-year pass degree, and a higher rate for those who hold such degrees. Additional duties will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.

Requirements

  • Applicant must have or be enrolled in a Masters or higher degree in Tourism Management.
  • Applicant must have an average of 80% or higher in 2 undergraduate degree courses in the area of Tourism Management or an equivalent undergraduate course area.
  • Applicant must have strong knowledge in the area of Tourism Management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in EXCEL and Brock University's Sakai-Based Learning Management System (LMS) or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in marking on-line essays in PDF and other related file types.
  • Ability to perform the various duties of the position.
  • Available during normal office hours for group meetings.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Must be dependable and have strong time management skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills and effective verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and lead tutorials and facilitate discussion.
  • Mark and grade course work including presentations, participation, chapter summaries, essays, mid-term tests, and final exams.
  • Provide constructive feedback on student work.
  • Enter grades into the Gradebook.
  • Proctor mid-term tests and final exams.
  • Attend lectures as required and assist with class organization.
  • Attend all scheduled seminar meetings with the course instructor.
  • Provide students with your Brock email address for course-related inquiries.
  • Be available to meet with students if a meeting is requested about the course.
  • Be familiar with the textbook.
  • Meet with the course instructor as required.
  • Assist other TAs as needed.
