About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the SOCI 3P04 - Sociology of Politics course for the Fall D2-1 term. This position is part of the CUPE4207-1 employee group. Compensation is based on qualifications, with an undergraduate rate of $23.30 per hour and a graduate rate of $36.67 per hour (effective September 1, 2026). Additional duties will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties and responsibilities are in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement, and include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time such as preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree or Honours Degree in Sociology or equivalent.
  • If vacancies remain, students enrolled in an Honours Program (completed 15 or more credits) in Sociology or equivalent (with an 80% average or higher) will be considered.
  • Completion of the course for which the applicant wishes to be a teaching assistant with a final grade of 75% or higher in that course (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated teaching competence. (eg. summary of previous course evaluations, faculty evaluations)
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet stipulated deadlines, recognizing that there are periods of intensive work associated with the position.
  • In your cover letter, explain how you meet each of the four listed qualifications. Failure to do so will result in an incomplete application.
  • It is the applicant's responsibility to demonstrate how his/her degree and training are equivalent.
  • Likewise, it is the applicant’s responsibility to identify the course for consideration of equivalency.
  • For courses taken at Brock, identify the course (i.e., XXXX 3P00).
  • For courses taken elsewhere, provide a transcript (a copy of your course and grade summary from your student selfservice at that institution is sufficient); highlight the course and provide the course description.
  • Failure to provide the required documentation to support the request for consideration of equivalency will result in an incomplete application.
  • Equivalency will be determined by the course instructor, in consultation with the selection committee.
  • Applicants must make a case that their qualifications are equivalent to those required above.
