About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the SOCI 3P70 - Social Justice Research course for the Fall D2 term. This position is part of the CUPE4207-1 employee group. Compensation will be based on the employee's qualifications, with an undergraduate rate of $23.30 per hour and a graduate rate of $36.67 per hour (effective September 1, 2026). Additional duties will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time such as preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree or Honours Degree in Sociology or equivalent
  • If vacancies remain, students enrolled in an Honours Program (completed 15 or more credits) in Sociology or equivalent (with an 80% average or higher) will be considered.
  • Completion of the course for which the applicant wishes to be a teaching assistant with a final grade of 75% or higher in that course (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated teaching competence (e.g., summary of previous course evaluations, faculty evaluations)
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet stipulated deadlines, recognizing that there are periods of intensive work associated with the position.
  • In your cover letter, explain how you meet each of the four listed qualifications. Failure to do so will result in an incomplete application.
  • It is the applicant's responsibility to demonstrate how his/her degree and training are equivalent.
  • Likewise, it is the applicant’s responsibility to identify the course for consideration of equivalency.
  • For courses taken at Brock, identify the course (i.e., XXXX 3P00).
  • For courses taken elsewhere, provide a transcript (a copy of your course and grade summary from your student selfservice at that institution is sufficient); highlight the course and provide the course description.
  • Failure to provide the required documentation to support the request for consideration of equivalency will result in an incomplete application.
  • Equivalency will be determined by the course instructor, in consultation with the selection committee.
  • Applicants must make a case that their qualifications are equivalent to those required above.
