About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for SOCI 3P00 - Introduction to Early Modern Social Theory for the Fall 2026 term. This position is part of CUPE4207-1 (Employee Group). Compensation varies based on the employee's degree qualifications, with rates for those holding a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree being higher than those without. Additional duties will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties and responsibilities are in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. Requirements

  • Master’s Degree or Honours Degree in Sociology or equivalent.
  • Completion of the course for which the applicant wishes to be a teaching assistant with a final grade of 75% or higher in that course (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated teaching competence (e.g., summary of previous course evaluations, faculty evaluations).
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet stipulated deadlines, recognizing that there are periods of intensive work associated with the position.
  • In your cover letter, explain how you meet each of the four listed qualifications. Failure to do so will result in an incomplete application.
  • It is the applicant's responsibility to demonstrate how his/her degree and training are equivalent.
  • Likewise, it is the applicant's responsibility to identify the course for consideration of equivalency.
  • For courses taken at Brock, identify the course (i.e., XXXX 3P00).
  • For courses taken elsewhere, provide a transcript (a copy of your course and grade summary from your student selfserve at that institution is sufficient); highlight the course and provide the course description.
  • Failure to provide the required documentation to support the request for consideration of equivalency will result in an incomplete application.
  • Equivalency will be determined by the course instructor, in consultation with the selection committee.
  • Applicants must make a case that their qualifications are equivalent to those required above.

Nice To Haves

  • If vacancies remain, students enrolled in an Honours Program (completed 15 or more credits) in Sociology or equivalent (with an 80% average or higher) will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement.

Benefits

  • Compensation based on qualifications (undergraduate rate - $23.30 per hour, graduate rate - $36.67 per hour).
  • Additional duties compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.
