About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the SOCI 3P11 - Quantitative Data Analysis I course for the Fall D2 term. This position is part of the CUPE4207-1 employee group. Compensation will be based on the employee's qualifications, with an undergraduate rate of $23.30 per hour and a graduate rate of $36.67 per hour. Additional duties will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time such as preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree or Honours Degree in Sociology or equivalent.
  • Completion of the course for which the applicant wishes to be a teaching assistant with a final grade of 75% or higher in that course (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated teaching competence (e.g., summary of previous course evaluations, faculty evaluations).
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet stipulated deadlines, recognizing that there are periods of intensive work associated with the position.
  • Applicants must explain how they meet each of the four listed qualifications in their cover letter.
  • Applicants must demonstrate how their degree and training are equivalent.
  • Applicants must identify the course for consideration of equivalency.
  • For courses taken at Brock, identify the course (i.e., XXXX 3P00).
  • For courses taken elsewhere, provide a transcript (a copy of your course and grade summary from your student selfserve at that institution is sufficient); highlight the course and provide the course description.
  • Failure to provide the required documentation to support the request for consideration of equivalency will result in an incomplete application.
  • Graduate Students enrolled at Brock University shall not accept an appointment in excess of an average of ten (10) hours per week over an academic term, in which she is enrolled as a full-time student, without the prior permission of the Dean of Graduate Studies.
  • Undergraduate Students enrolled at Brock University shall not accept more than nine (9) Teaching Assistant appointments, or the equivalent of nine (9) Teaching Assistant appointments in any classification, per term minus the number of courses in which that student is currently enrolled.
  • Part-time Graduate Students and Non-Students shall not accept any appointment which, taken together with all other appointments at the University, would cause the member to exceed the maximum number of regular hours (i.e. not overtime hours) allowable in a work week under the Employment Standards Act, as amended from time to time.

Nice To Haves

  • Students enrolled in an Honours Program (completed 15 or more credits) in Sociology or equivalent (with an 80% average or higher) will be considered if vacancies remain.
