About The Position

Brock University is seeking to fill an existing vacancy for a Teaching Assistant for the NUSC 2P19 Pharmacology in Nursing course for the Fall D2 term. This position is 30 hours per week, with two positions available. Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds. Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $23.30 per hour. Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $36.67 per hour. In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing student support and additional office hours.

Requirements

• Strong foundational/practical knowledge regarding medication administration and dosing calculations required, including but not limited to: Proficiency with fractions, decimals, and percentages, Setting up and solving ratios and proportions for dosing calculations, Experience with desired dose calculations, Expertise with weight-based calculations, Skilled understanding of flow and IV drip rates, Proficiency in formulas and conversions.
• Effective communication skills including the ability to explain subject material to students, be punctual in attending classes, and be able to meet appropriate deadlines.
• Must be registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario as an RN.

Responsibilities

• Providing student support and additional office hours.
• Scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required.
