About The Position

Brock University is seeking to fill an existing vacancy for a Teaching Assistant for the CRIM 3P61 - Sociology of Punishment course for the Fall D2 term. Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications the employee holds. Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate of $23.30 per hour. Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate of $36.67 per hour. In cases where additional duties are required, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time, such as preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required. The position is subject to course enrollments and budgetary approval. Requirements

  • Master’s Degree or Honours Degree in Sociology or equivalent.
  • Completion of the course for which the applicant wishes to be a teaching assistant with a final grade of 75% or higher in that course (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated teaching competence (e.g., summary of previous course evaluations, faculty evaluations).
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet stipulated deadlines, recognizing that there are periods of intensive work associated with the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Students enrolled in an Honours Program (completed 15 or more credits) in Sociology or equivalent (with an 80% average or higher) will be considered if vacancies remain.
