About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for a Teaching Assistant in the CUPE4207-1 (Employee Group) for the course HLSC 3P21 (ISSUES IN CANADIAN HEALTH POLICY) during the Winter term. Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds. Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $23.30 per hour. Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $36.67 per hour. In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required.

Requirements

  • Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in Health Sciences or related discipline.
  • Applicants must have completed this course within the last three years.
  • The successful applicant must have effective communication skills including the ability to explain subject material to students and provide constructive feedback, be punctual in attending classes, and be able to meet appropriate deadlines.
  • Experience or training with synchronous and asynchronous course support.
  • Proficiency with online delivery tools (e.g., Lifesize, Microsoft Teams, Brightspace), computer spreadsheets (e.g., Excel), and electronic audience response systems
  • Available to provide feedback in person and, when required, online.

Nice To Haves

  • If vacancies remain, fourth year (honours) standing students in Health Sciences or related discipline will be considered.
  • Experience leading seminars is an asset.
