About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the POLI 2P47 course during the Winter D3-1 term. This position is part of the CUPE4207-1 employee group. The nominal workload for this position is 60 hours. Duties include facilitating small group discussions, grading assignments and exams, providing constructive feedback, and maintaining student performance records. These duties align with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement and include both classroom and non-classroom time such as preparation, student consultation, marking, proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other administrative tasks.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in or have completed a postgraduate degree in Political Science with emphasis on International Relations or Comparative Politics.
  • Must have successfully completed POLI 2P47 (or equivalent) and have the ability to clearly articulate the basic theoretical concepts.
  • Must have strong essay writing skills.
  • Must have good organizational skills and be able to observe timelines requested by the Instructor.
  • Must have prior documented experience as a teaching assistant or in a similar leadership capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitating small group discussions based on assigned materials.
  • Grading of assignments and exams.
  • Providing thoughtful and constructive feedback with the aim of enriching students' academic experiences in the discipline.
  • Maintaining accurate records of individual student performance.
  • Scheduled contact time with students.
  • Non-classroom time including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required.
