About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the POLI 2P31: Comparative Politics: Political Institutions and Approaches course during the Winter term. This role involves facilitating small group discussions, grading assignments and exams, providing constructive feedback to students, and maintaining student performance records. The nominal workload for this position is 60 hours. Duties are in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement and include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time such as preparation, student consultation, marking, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in or have completed a postgraduate degree in Political Science with emphasis on Comparative Politics.
  • Must have the ability to clearly articulate the basic theoretical concepts.
  • Must have strong essay writing skills.
  • Must have good organizational skills and be able to observe timelines requested by the Instructor.
  • Must have prior documented experience as a teaching assistant or in a similar leadership capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitating small group discussions based on assigned materials.
  • Grading of assignments and exams.
  • Providing thoughtful and constructive feedback with the aim of enriching students' academic experiences in the discipline.
  • Maintaining accurate records of individual student performance.
  • Preparation of seminar material.
  • Student consultation.
  • Marking or grading.
  • Examination proctoring.
  • Attending lectures.
  • Holding office hours.
  • Other course administration as may be required.
