About The Position

Brock University is seeking to fill two existing vacancies for Teaching Assistants for the DART 2P97 (Winter) course, specifically for Seminars 2 and 3. This course focuses on Canadian Dramaturgy, exploring the theory and practice of dramaturgy through research and analysis of plays, creation processes, and productions in Canada. The role involves lectures and seminars, with a commitment of 3 hours per week (60 hours for each position). The lecture is scheduled for Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Seminar 2 on Wednesday from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, and Seminar 3 on Wednesday from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Compensation for Teaching Assistant positions is based on qualifications, with an undergraduate rate of $23.30 per hour and a graduate rate of $36.67 per hour (effective September 1, 2026). Additional duties will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties align with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement, encompassing scheduled student contact time and non-classroom responsibilities such as preparing seminar materials, student consultation, marking, grading, exam proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration.

Requirements

  • MA or MFA in theatre and performance or a relevant, related discipline, or currently enrolled in a master’s program relevant to theatre and performance.
  • Formal training in post-secondary teaching or successful post-secondary teaching experience. Evidence of teaching success may consist of previous course evaluations, teaching letters of recommendation, examples of learning activities designed, or other objective evidence.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Evidence to be provided in the cover letter.
  • Excellent organizational skills. Evidence to be provided in the cover letter.
  • Demonstrated commitment to anti-oppressive, decolonizing, anti-racist, anti-supremacist, or related approaches to theatre making, theatre pedagogy, and/or theatrical practices. Evidence may include relevant course-work, scholarly presentations or publications, development of professional theatre practices, academic or professional leadership, consulting work, or professional development or training.
  • Demonstrated ability to use the BRIGHTSPACE online learning management system, the BrockDB online portal, the OASIS system for managing student accommodations, or equivalent systems in other institutions.
