About The Position

The Department of Languages & Global Studies (LGS) at the University of North Dakota (UND) is seeking a Teaching Assistant Professor of Spanish. This is a 9-month, non-tenure track position focused on teaching undergraduate Spanish courses and contributing to departmental and university missions through service. The department emphasizes the learning of world languages, literature, and cultures to prepare students for a globalized community, offering majors and minors in various languages and Global Studies. UND, North Dakota's oldest research university, is located in Grand Forks, a vibrant college town known for its quality of life and affordability.

Requirements

  • Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English.
  • Ability to utilize current methods of language teaching and embrace new pedagogies.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in Spanish and English.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to work with and engage students and colleagues with a broad range of backgrounds.
  • Competent to utilize technology and ability to adopt new tools for both on-campus and online course delivery.
  • Earned M.A. in Spanish language, literature, cultural studies or related field by August 15, 2027.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check.
  • Verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
  • This position does not support visa sponsorship for continued employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. in Spanish language, literature, cultural studies or related field by August 15, 2027.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate, college-level Spanish language courses.
  • Record of excellence in teaching demonstrated through teaching evaluations and statement of teaching philosophy.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate Spanish courses at all levels.
  • Contribute to the growth of first- and second-year Spanish language sequences.
  • Develop the new Medical Spanish course.
  • Contribute to curricular development and assessment.
  • Enhance ongoing recruitment and retention strategies for the Spanish program.
  • Engage in service activities for the program, department, college, university, and community (10% effort).
  • Utilize current and new pedagogies for language teaching.
  • Deliver courses on-campus and online.
